ISS Opportunities

ITR is an introductory course in High Powered Rocketry and aerospace technical concepts. The course is taught by members of Illinois Space Society (ISS) and designed to provide hands-on experience with hardware and software used by student rocketry organizations and industry professionals. Students in the course will design a rocket, run tests and simulations of the structure and electronics, and launch the rocket at the conclusion of the course. This course will have its first class meeting on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. Registration will open August 19th, more information can be found on the ISS website (https://www.illinoisspacesociety.org/) or ISS Instagram (@illinoisspacesociety).
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This year, ISS is pursuing a variety of technical projects, including the flagship Spaceshot program and hybrid and solid propulsion systems, as well as NASA's Micro-g NExT and RASC-AL design challenges. Spaceshot is a highly-interdisciplinary, multi-year project to reach the Kármán line, at 100 km above Earth's surface, with a rocket completely designed and built by students. Their propulsion teams are developing cutting-edge hybrid and solid propulsion systems, that will be used as engines in future rocketry projects. The ISS Micro-g NExT team designs, manufactures, and tests a tool that helps astronauts perform specific tasks in space. Their RASC-AL team participates in a theoretical design competition that involves researching and developing all components of a conceptual space architecture. No experience is necessary to join any of these teams. However, you must pay dues to the society to participate. These dues are $10 for the year or $15 for a semester. If you are interested in any of these projects please reach out to Amy Exposito at amybe2@illinois.edu. Also check out their instagram below for announcements about their upcoming general meetings, where you can hear more about these exciting projects!
